O2 Academy Leicester

Probably a brand name on most people’s lips now, The o2 academy in Leicester was opened in September 2010 after Leicester University and The Academy Music Group got together. The entire venue has a capacity of well over 2000 patrons. The o2 Leicester venue itself is split into 3 production venues.

The first is the main arena, which as you would expect has hosted some of the biggest names in Music. The arena a capacity can hold 1450 people with stage, lighting, and a sound system to match the biggest of music venues.

The second arena area has a capacity to hold 500 people and is still one of the largest venues in Leicester.  It has more of a traditional look about looking fore like a magistrate court with its wood paneling adoring the sides. The stage is also smaller than the main arena but the lighting and sound system more then makes up for this and means it can still put on a professional show.

The third venue area still houses an impressive 250 patrons and operates completely independently from its two larger brothers. The stage is still acceptable and the sound system very good and although I have been disappointed about the lighting in the smaller venue area it can still house a gig without problems.

In summary the o2 Leicester is how you would expect a large scale music venue to be, with lots of facilities including well stocked bars, clean toilets and access to merchandising.
