Sam Bailey Takes The Christmas Number 1

Leicester’s Sam Bailey has won the battle to become 2013 Christmas number one.

Sam’s festive number one was revealed by Jameela Jamil and Scott Mills on BBC Radio One’s chart show tonight at 7pm.

The 36-year-old former prison officer stormed ahead of even her closest rival; US star Pharrell Williams, by selling twice as many copies of her single, Skyscraper, a cover of a track by Demi Lovato.

Sam Told the Officallcharts.com “It really is the icing on the cake and it means Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity and Together For Short Lives will benefit from the single, which makes it extra special.”

The X-Factor winner sold 149,000 copies of her debut single Skyscraper.

We asked Sam earlier this week what she plans to do in 2014 and she told us “Well I just want to make a really good album and I want to put stuff on there that I want on there and I have been given the opportunity to do that.”

Another former X-Factor winner Leona Lewis took the third spot with her Christmas song ‘One More Sleep’.

AC/DC also claimed their first ever UK top 10 single, with Highway To Hell which notched up a very comfortable number four after a social media campaign to try and keep this year’s X Factor winner off the top spot failed.

Proceeds from the Sam Bailey single will be split between Great Ormond Street Hospital and Together for Short Lives.
