Fullhurst College Principal Appointed Advisor

A College principal who has turned around a city secondary school has been appointed as a policy advisor by the Department for Education.

Tom Campbell, who is principal of Fullhurst Community College in Leicester, has been chosen to be part of a reference group that advises Government ministers on policies and how they can be implemented in schools.

Under his leadership, Fullhurst – which was previously in special measures – has achieved national recognition as one of the most improved schools in the country, with a ‘good’ Ofsted rating and GCSE results above the local and national average.

Tom said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to this position, which I’ll be taking on alongside my duties as principal at Fullhurst and school inspector with Ofsted. I hope to represent the broad views of educational professionals across Leicester at the Department for Education, highlighting our existing, successful structures for school co-operation, such as the Education Improvement Partnership, which brings city secondary school leaders together to share ideas. I also want to ensure that government policy supports the young people of Leicester in achieving their full potential in our schools.”

Cllr Vi Dempster, assistant city mayor responsible for education, said: “This is great news for Tom, for Fullhurst and for Leicester city schools as a whole, giving us a chance to demonstrate how effective our schools can be when they work together to raise standards and improve results.”
